EDMON- surface tension 2

We experiment with surface tension again

My family and I experiment with surface tension again.

We put water into the petri dish and threw pepper on top. I saw the pepper floating, I could imagine the pepper is like the water atoms holding onto each other. I dropped the soap into the petri dish. The pepper shot across the petri dish. It was so strange to see this happen. The pepper symbolizes the water tension, so when we added the soap to the petri dish it weakened the water tension, and that is how the pepper shot across the petri dish.

How cool is this!!

Surface tension

The surface tension experiments:

For these experiments, we will need -
  • A petri dish
  • A pipette
  • A measuring cup
  • A peace cardboard
  • Two coins ($2)
  • Dishwashing liquid soup
  • Hand soap
  • Pepper (fine)
  • Water

The first experiment was interesting. My dad told us to observe carefully, or we might miss the results.

I filled the measuring cup to the top. I had to be careful not to spill the water. My sister used the pipette to add water to the cup. She added one drop of water at a time. She stopped adding water, but my dad encouraged her to add more drops. So she added a lot more drops before my dad stopped her. What we saw next was amazing. The water was making a bubble over the top. It surprised me how many drops my sister added and it didn’t spill. I did the experiment too.

This is what we saw.

Bee sting: lockdown

Bee sting: lockdown

It was about a week ago when my sister and I were playing outside climbing trees. I jumped off a tree
trying to run away from my sister. My dad mowed the lawn earlier that day. So, when I jumped off the
tree I landed on a dead bee. As soon as the bee stung me I knew not to walk on my foot so that the
poison doesn’t go into my foot.

I shouted out: ”Dad I got a bee sting!”. My dad took a sharp knife to remove the stinger, but it didn’t work.
My mum got my dad the tweezers and my dad got the stinger out by pinching the front end of the stinger
with the tweezers.

I will not lie, I felt nervous about the bee sting and the poison. I relaxed after my dad removed the stinger.

I wanted to see how the stinger looked under the microscope. So my dad helped me and this is what we
saw.

bike riding: lockdown

Bike riding: lock down

Two days ago my sister and I decided to ride our bikes. I did a few skids on my bike.  My dad lifted my sisters training wheels so she could learn how to ride a bike with two wheels.

While I was riding my bike on the grass, I managed to break the left side pedal. I  don’t know how it happened, but my dad fixed it. The next day my dad and mum took us for a ride on the street. It was amazing, because I could finally ride fast. I like to go outside with my bike. I felt good after riding my bike for about an hour.

Exercise is important, and riding my bike is exercising.
